FoodTrip | Cebu's Lechon and Late Lunch at Dimsum Break Cebu City

Mushroom Siomai
We had our late breakfast at Dumaluan Beach Resort so we didn't bother to have our lunch at the port (Bohol). However, because it was already late,  (was already 2PM when we reached Cebu), we were all starving by the time we reached our hotel in Cebu City. So after checking in and leaving our things at the hotel, we immediately went out to look for something to eat. We were so hungry then we settled on the nearest fast food joint just across our hotel, the Dimsum Break. I know this was our first time in Cebu but having had nothing after breakfast and considering it's a bit late, we just want to satisfy our hunger the fastest way possible first, authentic Cebu dishes later. :P

We still waited for around 10 minutes before we were served of our orders but at least, we're settled and having a refreshing drink already. I ordered mushroom siomai (P62), sweet and sour pork (P60), spicy squid (P65) for myself and my nephew and steamed fish (dory) fillet (P85) for my mom. The siomai's good, no fatty chunks (at least in our serving) and as usual, I love the spicy dip (calamansi, soy sauce and chili sauce) that comes with it. The sweet and sour pork is also good, small serving though. But the spicy squid is "rubbery" and too spicy, even my nephew who's fond of spicy food gave up. Of the three of us, my mom enjoyed her lunch cum merienda the most; she liked her steamed dory fish very much (no photo though).

The Famous Cebu's Lechon

After our late lunch, we went back to our room to freshen up and went out again a while later for our Cebu City walking tour. As I mentioned in my previous post, it's a stretch of a walking tour we again got hungry afterwards (this just after more than two hours...hehe). Yeah I know, I'm just making excuses but who would want to leave Cebu city without having a taste of their very famous lechon? Certainly, not us! :P

Having heard and read a lot about Cebu's lechon, I was looking forward to trying it (though I'm not a fan of lechon). And since I read from a post of one of the bloggers I follow that we could try Cebu's lechon in one of the food chains (Marina) at SM Cebu food court, we all went there for our dinner. At the Marina's, I eagerly ordered lechon (P115); also got clam soup (P55), sinigang na bangus (P70), fresh fruit salad and fruit juice for our dinner.

For the first time, I've tasted Cebu's lechon! See the photo below? That's Marina's lechon - Cebu style. The wait staff said it's 250 grams, looks  like 100 grams though...hehe! Now, what about my take on this famous dish of Cebu? Well, it's salty, unlike other lechons I've tried before. Sadly, that's the only thing I remember about Cebu's lechon, it being salty. But if it is this salty taste that makes this lechon popular and highly recommended must-try food of Cebu, then I've no comment; as I said, I'm no fan of lechon. I only tried this just for the sake of tasting it, just to satisfy my curiosity. ;P

Now I'm done with my Cebu posts, I can now start with our Bohol family trip. It's late I know, but please bear with me my few readers, I'm so busy with my real life I almost forgot I've a virtual life in here..hehe! :P See you again in my next post peeps!

Update: I went to Cebu again recently, another work-related travel so I didn't see much of the city. But I had a try of Cebu's lechon again, this time from Zubuchon. I would say it's good. We've tried the spicy lechon variety and for once, I appreciated and liked lechon. I'm still no fan of lechon but if it's from Zubuchon, I'm willing to try it again. I even bought two kilos of frozen lechon (regular, not spicy) for pasalubong but nothing beats the fresh and spicy lechon I've tasted from their restaurant. ^_^
